Ambulatory Surgical Center

As part of our commitment to provide a full range of orthopaedic services, the Ambulatory Surgery Center, or ASC, at OSS is an outpatient ambulatory surgical facility for those procedures which do not require an overnight stay in a hospital.

The ASC is located at the OSS Powder Mill Campus off the main lobby in Suite 210. Surgical and pain procedures are performed here in a safe and comfortable setting using state-of-the-art equipment and the newest surgical techniques.

The ASC features five operating rooms, four pain procedure rooms, a spacious pre-op/recovery area, a large and comfortable waiting room and plenty of convenient parking. Our very competent staff is committed to providing quality and professional care. We strive to make your experience at the ASC a positive one. Our goal is to provide you with the best orthopaedic and pain management care available.

The OSS physicians and staff encourage you to participate actively in your care. Please disclose relevant medical and health information to us, as well as any unexpected changes in your condition or health status, to help us provide the appropriate care.

Preparing for Surgery

Your physician and our staff will discuss your procedure with you. Please ask as many questions as possible so that you feel comfortable with your procedure and what to expect. Tell the doctor what medications you are currently taking. Complete the health history form accurately so our staff has all relevant information.

If you are scheduled for surgery, the ASC staff will contact you the day before your procedure with the time you should arrive. If you have not received a call from them by 2 p.m., please call us at 717-747-8306. If you are scheduled for a pain procedure, you will receive an automated call indicating your appointment date and time. Please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early. Question any variation in medications, treatment or plan of care that differs from what you, the patient, or your family was informed to expect.

If you will be receiving general anesthesia or sedation, you will not be permitted to drive yourself home after the procedure. You will need an escort who should be at least 18 years of age and able to remain with you for the first 24 hours. OSS offers a comfortable waiting room and a café for the comfort of your escort. Unfortunately if you do not have an escort, we will be forced to postpone your procedure.

On the Day of Surgery

Pre-Operative Area

Upon your arrival at the ASC, our staff will strive to make your experience a positive one. Once you have checked in, a nurse will take you into our pre-operative area to take your vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature and pulse.

If receiving anesthesia, your anesthesiologist will talk with you to explain and answer any questions you have regarding your anesthesia. Finally, your physician will visit to answer any final questions.

Operating Room

After the pre-operative procedures, you will be taken to a state-of-the-art operating room for your surgery.

Post-operative Area

After your procedure, you will be taken to a spacious recovery area where your escort can join you. As your recovery progresses, you will be given discharge instructions to follow when you arrive at home after surgery. It is important for your escort to be present to hear those instructions as you may not remember all of them due to the anesthesia. Our staff will contact you after your procedure to follow up on your care and check on your progress.

We appreciate the opportunity to provide you with these services. Please feel free to contact us at any time with questions regarding your procedure/surgery at 717-747-8306.
