FAQs
Ambulatory Surgery Center
Q: How long will I be here for my surgery or procedure from start to finish?
A: You will generally be in the pre-operative area for one (1) hour. The surgery and recovery times vary depending on the type of procedure being performed. Your surgeon will give you these details when explaining the procedure.
Q: Can my family member come with me when I am called back for my surgery or procedure?
A: A family member may come back to pre-operative area. During the surgery, the family member will be given a pager and taken to the waiting room. The pager is then activated when they may come back to the recovery area.
Billing
Q: How do I know if I have a balance on my account at OSS or OSS ASC facility?
A: If you have a bill for services with a provider at OSS, at OSS Imaging or at OSS Rehab Services, you will get a red/white/blue statement for services rendered after the claims are submitted to your insurance carrier. You have 30 days to pay this bill and if you call us we can offer prompt payment discounts for payment in full within this time frame. If you need to arrange a payment plan, OSS can do this for you free of interest for up to six (6) months.
If you have a bill with the OSS ASC facility you will receive a yellow statement and asked to mail your payment to the indicated lockbox. You may personally pay your ASC bill by coming to the OSS ASC reception area at the Powder Mill Road location and a representative will be called to assist you. The OSS ASC also offers prompt payment discounts for payment in full within the first 30 days and payment plans for those in need of this service.
Any surgery and/or procedure, such as pain management, that is done at the OSS ASC facility will have a separate charge for the physician fee, facility fee and then anesthesia if applicable. Pain management does not usually require anesthesia. OSS utilizes Lehigh Anesthesia to provide this service to our patients.
Q: Who can I call with billing questions?
A: Call 848-4800 and select option #3 for insurance and billing. You will then be prompted to enter #1 for physician office billing or #2 for OSS ASC Facility billing. These are entirely separate companies and have separate billing departments.
Q: What methods of payment does OSS accept?
A: OSS accepts VISA, MasterCard, Discover, check and cash. You can mail a check in the provided response envelope if you have received a statement. Cash payments are accepted at OSS, 1855 Powder Mill Road in York Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. OSS has financial counselors that are able to assist you if you need to review the qualifications for Medical Assistance or the Healthy York Network program for those in need of free or reduced health care in York County.
General
Q: Is OSS only located in York?
A: No, OSS also has offices in Gettysburg, Lewisberry and Camp Hill. The physicians travel to these offices to provide expert orthopaedic care convenient to home or work.
Q: Do all of the orthopaedic doctors at OSS handle general orthopaedic issues?
A: Yes, all of the OSS physicians will take care of general orthopaedic issues, but some have additional training, referred to as fellowship training, in specific areas of orthopaedics, such as spine, sports medicine and total joint replacements. The provider page on the website has the physicians’ background, training and specialties if applicable.
Q: Do I need a referral from my doctor to come to OSS?
A: As a specialist office, OSS does not require a referral from your PCP unless required by your insurance company. Some patients will be referred to OSS from the primary care physician office via the consultation request process.
If you are covered by Medicare, we will list your family physician and bill Medicare for the services provided. No paper referral is required except for podiatry services. In that case, you must see your family physician first for a referral to see our podiatrist.
For HMO plans, a referral from your family physician is needed.
For Workers’ Compensation, you must see a physician on your employer’s panel for the first 90 days. We have record of the provider panels on which OSS is listed for treatment. If your employer does not have a provider panel, then you can treat with any physician. All out of state claims need to have prior authorization and referrals.
Imaging Center
Q: What kind of imaging studies can I have done at OSS and can a non-OSS doctor order it for me?
A: We do all types of MRIs, CT Scans and Ultrasounds, not just bone exams. The only exams we cannot do are heart, breast and some artery tests. Any physician from any city can order your test.
Q: How will I get my results from my imaging studies?
A: Your imaging report will be faxed to the requesting physician within 48 hours. That physician is responsible for making arrangements to get your results to you. We will let you know what those arrangements are before you leave from your imaging appointment.
