Job Description
Reporting to the Manager of Health Information, the HIM Coder provides accurate and timely chart analysis, coding and abstracting for use by medical staff, administration, ancillary departments, and insurance companies and reporting agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
· 2 or 4 Year degree – Health Information Services and 1 – 3 years inpatient coding experience preferred.
· CCS or CCS-P, CPC and/or CPC-H and 3 years experience required.
· Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
· Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, major disease processes and pharmacology.
· Knowledge of abstracting process.
· Ability to read, learn, understand, and interpret the coding guidelines, updates and references.
· Is self directed, demonstrates strong leadership skills, able to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources and has professional and effective communication skills.
